Advantages of Wind Energy
- Its a clean fuel sources- Which means that wind energy doesn't create pollution because it is a form of solar energy and doesn't produce atmospheric emissions that cause acid rain or greenhouse gasses.
- Wind energy/power is cost effective- It is one of the lowest-priced renewable energy technologies, costing four and six cents per kilowatt hour. The cost of a wind turbine is $4,000 to $9,000 for 1 kilowatt and $350,000 for 100 kilowatts.
- Creates more jobs- Having wind energy means installing wind turbines which creates new short and long term jobs. Many different jobs are needed to just put up one wind turbine, for example some jobs needed are meteorologists, surveyors, structural engineers, assembly workers, lawyers, bankers, and technicians
Disadvantages of Wind Energy
- Unpredictable- Wind is unpredictable so we'll never be one hundred percent sure when the wind turbine will be powered, without wind we are unable to produce energy from the turbine, which creates a problem for consumers or businesses using this energy. Also the availability of wind energy is not constant.
- Threat to wildlife- Birds, bats, and other flying creatures have a chance of surviving when taking a direct hit from a rotating wind turbine blade. Throughout the year a number of birds are killed by flying into the rotor.
- The turbines causing noise and aesthetic pollution- The noise that is produced by the rotor, aesthetic (visual) impact. Also the noise of the turbines are very noise so any homes or businesses near the turbines will be disturbed by the noise and annoyed.
